Warrior Interview #7
The Merrimack College Men’s Hockey team has been
knocking down the door when it comes to recruiting players. Merrimack currently
has 23 commits and are still out recruiting many possible future warriors. On
Friday November 23rd Merrimack received a “big” commitment from 6ft
5 defensemen Jacob Modry. Modry who is a ’99 born defenseman currently plays
for the Wenatchee Wild (BCHL) and as of now has 3 goals and 10 assists in 28
games played so far this season.
I was lucky enough to catch up with Modry yesterday to
ask him a few questions on his commitment to Merrimack. Here are some clips of
the interview:
Q: During your recruitment process what stood out to you
when looking at Merrimack versus what other schools had to offer?
A: “What stood out most about Merrimack was how close
the guys were and that everybody plays hard and has a high level of compete in
their game, I went on a visit to Merrimack and I got the opportunity to meet
the coaches and players and get a feel for the school. I enjoyed it and learned
a lot about the program and knew that Merrimack was the spot for me.”
Q: When you received an offer from Merrimack did you
know right away that’s the school I want to go to or did you wait a little bit
before deciding on Merrimack?
A: “As soon as I went on the visit to Merrimack and had
the offer to play here I knew that this would be the spot for me, I discussed
with my parents and decided quickly to commit!!”
Q: Where do you see this program headed in the next
couple of years, it’s a new coach and a lot of people say that he is very
determined to bring home a couple of championship banners when meeting with
coach Borek did you also get that same sense?
A: “I really do believe that this program has a chance
to do big things in the future! Coach Borek is a great hockey mind and I loved
how determined he is to win!”
Q: What do you think is the biggest asset that you will
bring to the Merrimack team?
A: “The biggest asset I can add to the team is that I am
a big puck moving defenseman, I take pride in my first pass and I play a fast
transition game and can get up the ice and add some offense!”
