Cherkowski Commits to Merrimack

Warrior Interview #6

Merrimack College has been on a role with committing players. Merrimack has 21 commits as of now and the numbers are expected to keep growing at a very fast rate. Merrimack recently received a commitment from ‘00 Nicholas Cherkowski who currently plays for the Vernon Vipers. I recently caught up with Nicholas to interview him on his commitment to Merrimack.

Q:
During your recruitment process what stood out to you when looking at Merrimack versus what other schools had to offer? 

A:
Things that stood out to while I was being recruited were the small school feel for example the small class sizes and closely knit community were draws for me. I was also drawn in by the drive and direction of the program. While I was there I felt that the whole program was really striving for more and wanted to become the best they could possibly be and I think that would be a culture I will fit in  well with. 

Q:
When you received an offer from Merrimack did you know right away that’s the school I want to go to or did you wait a little bit before deciding on Merrimack

A: 
When I received an offer from Merrimack I knew almost immediately that it was the place for me. I had no questions about where I wanted to study after I visited campus. 

Q: 
Where do you see this program headed in the next couple of years, it’s a new coach and a lot of people say that he is very determined to bring home a couple of championship banners when meeting with coach Borek did you also get that same sense


A:
I think that this program will be a force to be reckoned with in the near future. With coach borek coming in and the culture he has developed around the team there seems to be a real drive to be the best and that is super important. 

Q:
what do you think is the biggest asset that you will bring to the merrimack team?


A: As far as hockey goes I feel that I can bring some speed and size to the team. I am a big body that plays a really fast and hard working game. My work ethic is definitely what I would pride myself on and feel that it will help me a lot in a program like this. Merrimack was one of the first schools that I had talked to and that had recruited me so the whole process was unfamiliar. The way that  coach borek walked me through Merrimack and what goes on at the school really drew me to the program

Merrimack Get's The Sweep

Written By: Noah Cusack-Margolis Merrimack gets the sweep On Saturday night October 20th the Merrimack College men’s ice hockey program made history at Lawler Arena with a 4-0 shutout against Boston University. In the 118 matchups between the two team all-time meetings between the Warriors and Terriers, no Merrimack team has ever shutout the Terriers. Merrimack as well as BU are being coached by new coaches this season. (This season, Merrimack and BU are under direction from brand new coaching staff).  Merrimack is coached by Scott Borek who last worked at Providence as the assistant coach to Nate Leaman. Boston University’s head coach is not a new face in the locker room, but is new to the head coaching position. Albie O’Connell who is the new head coach of the Terriers was formerly David Quinn's assistant coach. Severo commits to Merrimack

Written By Noah Cusack-Margolis Warrior Interview #2 When it comes to finding good recruits one must have his or her eye on the for a while sometimes even before you switch coaching jobs from one school to another, and that's exactly what Merrimack Head coach Scott Borek did. Another top recruit Merrimack received comes from an 01 forward Casey Severo a very good hockey player with a very good hockey IQ. Casey who recently played with Noble & Greenough School and played in 28 game for Noble and Greenough ending with a total of 29 points (14 Goals, 15 Assists). One independent scout described Casey as " One of the top uncommitted players in prep hockey" obviously this statement was made before Casey committed to Merrimack College. Casey who also has taken part in the USA hockey select camps the last 2 seasons. Casey also appeared in the select 16 camp last season and the select 17 camp this season.
