D1 Warriors

Warriors go D1

What was once a dream for most people in the Merrimack College community the day has finally come and that dream has finally became a reality. On Monday September 10th 2018 Merrimack College and the NEC (Northeast Conference) announced that the warriors will be making that long awaited jump to division one in all of Merrimack's varsity sports by joining the NEC, which was predicted for a long time by many sources over the past couple of years.

Merrimack College has been dreaming of going division one in all sports for some time now and they have just been patiently waiting for the call saying that they are being offered a spot to join a division one conference. Although they have been talking about being a division one school for some time they also had to think logically. When Merrimack first started to talk about going D1 in all sport's they certainly were not the school  that they are today.

Merrimack has been a powerhouse at the division 2 level with winning over 10 league championships and winning a few national championships. The most recent national championship being last year when the men's lacrosse program won the national title at Gillette stadium beating St. Leo's 23-6. Along with winning the NCAA national title they also won the NE10 championship title last year. Softball, Men's ice hockey (already D1 in Hockey east) have won national championships. Along with national championships the warriors have also won regional championships with women's basketball and womens soccer. Along with state appearances the warriors also have made and won conference titles but that list is too long to state but over all the warriors have won 50 championship titles total (national and conference). Along with championships we have made over 60 national appearances.

Merrimack will be playing NEC opponents in 2019-20 but will be a full member of the NEC in 2023-24.
